So when you go and write things like “Some people should not fucking be allowed near a computer much less on the internet..” you better have something to back that up with. So I took a look at what this guy has contributed to the internet. Wow, whining. Who would have guessed? This coming from the guy who, on Facebook, only has pictures of himself shirtless. Kyle Lahr, @SteepFrugut, writes some truly funny things for Twitter and Facebook that can never be put down by anyone who doesn’t want a good lashing of my tongue.
This leads to a general problem that people outside the witty on Twitter don’t get: we are creative. We write things. We think words have meanings, really fucking funny ones. We work to serve ourselves with our humor and hope to find people who also like it. We want to make friends with people who like us for who we are.
When someone outside our circle comes in, especially those who have never had a creative thought in their body, they like to express their hatred for us. “You’re a bunch of nerds!” or they will ask us why we write about a certain topic like “sex” or “cursing.” You think anyone ever asked Hemingway why he wrote about a guy who couldn’t get an erection? Probably, and fuck that guy. The Sun Also Rises is a good book.
You know? This may not be a problem in the community you are in. For Kyle and I, we live in a town full of racist country folk who hate “them fancy Californians.” It’s sad. It makes it really hard for people like my friends and I to find other friends, and friends we can truly relate to. I mentioned Jesse Thorn to a women in my town and about his podcasts and that he dresses nice, she puts aside all the things about what Jesse does to rant on how Californian’s dress. Fuck her.
I don’t expect to make any friends with this post, I expect to lose some. That’s fine, because a “friend” who goes around trying to guide someone else’s personal creativity isn’t a friend.
